Taipei, Feb. 12, 2003 (CENS)--Eastern Multimedia Technology Co. (EMT), an affiliate of Eastern Multimedia Group, announced recently that it has obtained a license to broadcast fee-based digital TV programs. The company plans to hold a ceremony to mark the broadcast launch on February 18. EMT will then be the first company that offers such services throughout Taiwan. In addition to EMT, other two media firms--China Network System Co. (CNS) and Taiwan Broadband Communication Co. (TBC)--have entered the digital TV market since late last year. CNS is an affiliate of Koo's Group while TBC is an investment of the Carlyle Group of the United States. The two firms have not yet obtained licenses for the service. EMT said that its digital TV broadcasting facilities have been installed at its 12 cable TV stations around Taiwan. The company predicted that digital TV broadcasting would become popular within three years in Taiwan and that it would have some 200,000 sub scribers to the service before the end of this year.
